About NOOB ceramic
NOOB ceramic is a project by experienced ceramic artist Jung Hong Park, created to teach people who have never used a potter’s wheel. It places value on the unique aesthetic that emerges from the clumsiness and imperfections of a person’s very first wheel-thrown piece - treating these works not as practice, but as artworks in their own right. The irony that the more one improves through repetition, the more this uniqueness tends to fade, is also an essential part of the project’s concept.
A participant in the NOOB ceramic project is called a NOOBtist - a playful blend of “noob” and “artist.”
Our logo was created using non-dominant hand handwriting, intentionally reflecting the raw and refreshing quality that emerges from the clumsiness of a first attempt or new experience.
If you’ve never tried wheel throwing before and would like to join our 10-session wheel throwing class - and you’re also comfortable being filmed and having the videos shared publicly - please DM us on instagram @noobceramic!
